Joan Healey
Title: Varsity Coordinator
Category: Builder
Induction: 2017

Joan Healey has spent her last 35 years making sure Athletics & Recreation (A&R) at Centennial College is a “home away from home” for student-athletes. In 1978, Joan brought her talents to Centennial College as she registered into the 2-year diploma Recreation & Leisure program. While studying, Joan played on the women's basketball team and left her mark on the court, as she was awarded the MVP of the 1979-80 team.

She then graduated in 1980 and immediately secured a one-year contract working at the College. In 1981, she became full-time at the East York campus, as the Student Services/Program Technician. In 1983, after a 2-year layoff of the women's basketball program, Joan was tasked with the job of being the Assistant Coach to help rebuild the program. She served as the assistant for three years before she took over the program as the Head Coach in 1987.

Joan has also been instrumental in various College events and activities and is well respected by her colleagues in the College and OCAA. In 2010, Joan became the Varsity Coordinator, the position she still holds today. Joan has shown what it is to be a true role model to thousands of student-athletes over the years and will be truly missed when she decides to hang up her running shoes.
