OSHAWA, Ont. – They have been close numerous times, but the Durham College men's volleyball team finally has the monkey off their back.
The Lords defeated the Centennial Colts 3-1 on Saturday for their first conference victory in 2019.
Their victory unfortunately comes with the playoff window closing as both Loyalist and Fleming have games in hand and are nearly untouchable in the final playoff positions regardless of the games played differential.
That said, the Lords will look to make a run and finish the season strong as they head to Toronto on Wednesday to face the George Brown Huskies for their Bell Let's Talk matches. The first serve is 8 p.m.
• To be expected as the teams point leader,
Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) finished with 13 kills, four blocks and two service aces to end the night with a match-high 19 points.
• Leading the team in blocks were
Dalton Halligan (Cobourg, Ont.) and
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) with five apiece.
• Centennial's scoring mainly came from Marvin Reid, who had 11 kills, while Timothy Ho had a match-high six blocks.
•
Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) assisted on 19 of the Lords 35 kills.
• Defensively the Lords were led by libero
Jacob Haslam's (Whitby, Ont.) 12 digs.
• Javed Baksh assisted on 29 of Centennial's 33 kills.
Overall Record: 3-23
Conference Record: 2-13
