SCARBOROUGH, ONT.- After losing consecutive games over the weekend on the road to the Canadore Panthers and the Georgian Grizzlies, the Centennial Colts men's volleyball team were looking to get their first win of 2019 at home against the Seneca Sting.
Despite winning the set, Centennial were unable to continue that momentum, losing in four sets to Seneca (25-22, 17-25, 18-25, 20-25) at the Athletic and Wellness Centre, falling to 2-10 on the season and suffering the eighth straight defeat.
The first set started off slow for both teams but Jason Fillion came alive, scoring five points in the set and leading the Colts to a 25-22 first set win.
The second set, however, saw Seneca dominate as they scored seven straight points to take control. Despite Fillion scoring three points, the Sting easily took the second set, 25-17.
It was more of the same in the third set for the Sting, taking advantage of the Colts committing five attack and three service errors during that set. Seneca took the lead in the match by winning the third set, 25-18.
Centennial looked to have the edge in the fourth set, leading 10-8, after a kill from Timothy Ho. But a 6-0 run from Seneca gave them the lead for good and then scored four straight points after the Colts cut the lead down to two (19-17) to effectively end any hope of a comeback from the home team.
LEADING SCORERS

Adriano Galbiati (11) and Toms Gaikis (10) each scored in double figures for Seneca; Galbiati made a huge defensive impact with a game high four blocks while Gaikis had a team high eight kills

Savino Marques' passing and service game was on full display with 24 assists and a game high four aces.

Centennial's Jason Fillion was exceptional despite the loss with a game high 15 points on 12 kills with a kill percentage of .393.
TEAM STATS

Centennial had the edge in assists (27-26) and digs (46-41) while committing six less errors on the attack (22-16).

However, the Sting had the upper hand over the Colts in kills (34-33), blocks (6-4) and aces (8-5) while having 13 more attempts on the attack (115-102).
