The Centennial Colts came to an end last night and were unable to complete the comeback against the St. Lawrence Surge, falling 66-56. 3rd-year guard Christianna Crooks led the Colts in scoring with 14 points, while Abby Baptiste-Phillip was right behind with 12 points and 21 rebounds. Centennial was down by as many as 18 points and made a late push in the 4th, cutting the deficit to as little as six, but the Surge held on for the win. Baptiste-Phillip, who led Ontario in scoring, averaging 26.4 points per game, was held to less than 20 points for the first time this season. "We planned for [pressure on Baptiste-Phillip], so when she passed out of those double/triple teams, everyone else couldn't capitalize on those open shots and open drives," said Head Coach Naomi Mullings after the game. Despite the tough loss, the Colts had strong play out of the rookie Baptiste-Phillip and Coach Mullings talked about her thoughts on the season ahead. "I think we have about five or six players coming back, with a good core group that's a lot to build on. They know me as a coach and what we're expecting as a staff. Once we add a few recruits, then we're back," she said.
