SCARBOROUGH, ONT.- The Lady Colts opened up the home portion of 2019 looking to kill the buzz that was coming from the Seneca Sting after pulling off a win against the Georgian Grizzlies on the road over the weekend.
They did just that, winning in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20) at the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC), to improve to 8-4 on the season, moving one step closer to a top-three spot in the OCAA East.
In the first set, the Colts' balanced attack was on full display, taking it by a score of 25-14 as Meilin Carmichael, Emily Joe, and Vicky Wong each had three points during the set.
The second set saw Centennial race off to an early lead (12-6) only for Seneca to come roaring back to tie the set at 15. But the Colts closed out the set on a 10-4 run to take it 25-21; Dulce Barrera had three kills during that span.
Seneca's defence got stingy as Centennial was unable to find the holes to exploit for points and then committed errors on the attack. The Sting took advantage, taking the third set, 25-15, led by Charis Ho's four points in the set.
Consecutive aces from Stella Dada sparked an early lead for the Colts in the fourth set, one in which they would not relinquish; Dada had four points in the fourth set. Seneca cut the lead to 22-20 before Centennial scored the next three points, capped off by a kill by Joe to end the match.
LEADING SCORERS

This was a spectacular and efficient performance from Joe who had 13 kills on just 17 attempts. Joe had a kill percentage of .706 and led all scorers with 15 points.

Carmichael had 16 digs while Dada had four aces and Kayla Lui dished out 27 assists. All of these stats were game highs.

In her return to Centennial after playing there the previous season, Elizabeth Chow led the Sting with nine kills.
TEAM STATS

Seneca had the edge in kills (34-33) but committed more errors (23-17) on the attack. They also edged Centennial, 3-2, in blocks.

The Colts' service game gave the Sting a lot of trouble as they had 12 aces.

Centennial also had the edge in digs (65-60) and assists (28-25).
