Rollercoaster of a night ends with Lords losing to Colts

OSHAWA, Ont. – There was little indication for most of their home opener in how the night would end for the Durham College men's basketball team, but in the end it was the Centennial Colts coming out on top in the 81-75 game.

Durham trailed 19-10 early, but on a 15-0 run powered back to take the lead. They maintained that momentum into the second quarter with 47 per cent from the field, compared to 29 per cent from the Colts, taking a 35-30 lead into halftime.

Unfortunately for the Lords they allowed the Colts to get to the line more in the second half and Centennial capitalized. They Colts were 16-for-18 from the charity stripe, compared to 6-for-10 in the second half for the Lords.

That 10-point spread was more than the difference on the night, but played a key role as the Lords shooting percentage of 39.2 from the field was better than the Colts 37.5.

Next up for Durham College is a tough test against the defending national champion Seneca Sting, who earned a 110-58 win over the Fleming Knights on Tuesday night.

Tip-off on Friday is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) finished with a game-high 32 points in all but two minutes on the court in the game.
Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) was 5-for-10 from the field, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lords' only double-double of the night.
• Centennial was led by Isaiah Cromwell-Wright's 27 points on 7-for-19 from the field and 11-for-11 from the line.
  • Past Hinckson Jr.'s 11 boards, Craig Hanson (Ajax, Ont.) and Shamar Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) finished with eight rebounds apiece.
• For the Colts, Kyrin Henlin had his team's only double-double after finishing with a game-high 11 rebounds and 13 points.
  Overall Record: 4-4
Conference Record: 1-2

Next game: Friday, Nov. 2 @ Seneca Sting • 8 p.m. - North York, Ont.
