Women's Basketball Strong Second Quarter Lifts Grizzlies Past Centennial
TORONTO, ON -- In a commanding performance, the Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team secured a 59-47 victory over the Centennial Colts. The Grizzlies' defense was particularly stifling in the second quarter, limiting the Colts to just two points, which allowed Georgian to establish a significant lead.
Offensively, guard Kory Hook (Barrie, ON) led the team with 16 points, including two three-pointers, and contributed three assists over 32 minutes. Forward Ami May (Raymond, AB) was a dominant presence in the paint, achieving a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Off the bench, Daija Thompson (Whitby, ON) provided a substantial boost, nearly securing a double-double herself with nine points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes.
The Grizzlies' defense forced 17 turnovers, capitalizing with 15 points off these opportunities. They also outpaced the Colts in fast-break scenarios, adding 10 points in transition compared to Centennial's four. Despite a challenging fourth quarter where the Colts attempted a comeback with 16 points, Georgian maintained their composure to seal the win.
