Lancers Fall to Colts in Five-Set Thriller
The Lancers dropped a 5 set battle to the Colts for the second time this season in their first game back after the winter break
The Loyalist Lancers women's volleyball team returned to action after the holiday break with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to the Centennial Colts in a thrilling rematch. The tightly contested battle mirrored their previous matchup in the first semester, where the Colts also edged the Lancers in five sets.
Loyalist came out strong in the opening set, taking it 26-24 behind a resilient team effort. Centennial responded in the second and third sets, narrowly winning both 26-24 to claim a 2-1 lead. Refusing to back down, the Lancers dominated the fourth set 25-16, forcing a decisive fifth. However, the Colts pulled away late in the final frame, securing the victory 15-8.
Second-year outside hitter Charlie Cudmore led the Lancers' offense with 12 points, including 9 kills, 1 ace, and 2 blocks. First-year standout Sydney Crawford added 7 kills and 2 blocks, showcasing her growing impact. The middle duo of Amber Verbruggen and Chloe Pallister was pivotal at the net, combining for 7 blocks, with Verbruggen chipping in 3 aces.
The Lancers will look to bounce back on home court for their first game of 2025 on Saturday, January 11th, when they face the Georgian Grizzlies. Matches are set for 1 PM and 3 PM at Loyalist College.
