Last second heroics in Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - A thrilling last second winner from team scoring leader Joshua Lee (Ajax, Ont.) gave the Durham Lords men's soccer team a crucial 2-1 road win on Friday night over the Centennial Colts.

Lee opened the action as he had the first shot of the game in 12th minute, but his effort was well saved.

In the 35th, the Lords had another chance when Ryan Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) had his shot saved, followed by a Marcellus Paul (Courtice, Ont.) rebound attempt which went just wide.

Durham dominated possession, preventing Centennial's first chance until the 49th minute when Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) made a nice save and a follow up shot from Colts forward Damian Davis missed the target.

DC opened the scoring in the 66th minute through Nick Spittle (Ajax, Ont.), as he saw the Colts goalkeeper off his line and curled a shot into the top left corner from a tough angle.

The equalizer came in the 81st minute when Keith Dadson smashed home a rebound from close range for the Colts.

The Lords, however, would not be denied the three points as they began to press for a winner in the last 10 minutes. After several attempts, it came down to the last touch of the game, a header from Lee which found the top right corner. With the Lords fans in attendance and the players on the pitch celebrating the valuable three points, Durham lifts themselves into first in the East with 16 points.

DC will take to the field again on Friday. Oct. 11 at Vaso's Field when they meet the Fleming Knights in both their home finale and the final match of the regular season.
