DC deliver in second half comeback

OSHAWA, ON - In an exciting Wednesday night showdown, the Durham Lords men's soccer team came back from a first half deficit to defeat the visiting Centennial Colts 2-1 at Vaso's Field.

Despite a quick start which saw the Lords have the opening scoring chances, it was the Colts who were first on the board courtesy a Brandon Thorpe goal in the 14th minute of play. Durham would enter the half down 1-0.

Following the break, DC found themselves in foul trouble, being handed two yellow cards, before a 67th minute red card sent second-year striker Joshua Lee (Ajax, ON) to the locker room, putting the Lords down to just 10-men with just 20 minutes remaining.

DC were not dissuade by their situation though, as they took the fight to the Colts in search of an equalizer. First-year striker Skylar Grey (Ajax, ON) made the play that would see the game tied 1-1 as he drew a foul from Centennial in the box, awarding him a penalty kick which he converted in the 78th.

Hungry for more, the Lords were not satisfied with just a draw and they took advantage of some unorganized play from the Colts in the final minutes to get a corner kick opportunity late in the 90th minute of play. Putting his foot to the ball, Robert Murtagh (Whitby, ON) delivered the cross into the box and it would be late substitution Kallum Holdsworth (Orillia, ON) who put a head on the ball to score the game-winner with just seconds remaining.

Garrett Werner (Ajax, ON) earned the win for the Lords in net, recording five saves on the night.

The Lords will look to carry the momentum from rallying back late into a two-game road trip which will begin this Saturday, Oct 2 against the Fleming Knights in Peterborough. Durham will look to duplicate their 4-0 victory over Fleming in the season opener earlier this fall. Kick off for the match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  Overall Record: 3-2-0 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 2-1-0

Next match: Saturday, Oct. 2 @ Fleming Knights (3 p.m. - Peterborough, ON)
