Lords split first ever OCAA matchup with Colts

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AJAX, ON - Facing the newest team to join the OCAA baseball league, the Durham College men's baseball team split their Wednesday night doubleheader versus the Centennial Colts at Ajax Sportsplex, winning 5-1 in Game 1, before falling 3-1 in Game 2.

This marked the first official meeting between the two teams as 2021 marks the inaugural season for the Colts. Centennial follows in the recent foot steps of Lambton who joined OCAA baseball in 2019, with the hope that more schools will be joining the already eight-team league in the coming years.

Durham next concludes their season this Sunday, Oct. 17 when they make up a previously rained out match versus the Seneca Sting. First pitch for the single game in set for 1 p.m.

Following the Sunday afternoon game, the Lords will prep to host the best in the province as for the third consecutive season Durham College with host the OCAA baseball championship at Kinsmen Stadium from Oct. 21-23.

Game 1
• Lords first base Palmer Cruickshank (Oshawa, ON) crossed the plate three times in the win, finishing the day 3-for-4, including two doubles.
• First-year Cam Lugtenburg (Bowmanville, ON) and veteran Jason Crouse (Oshawa, ON) both registered two RBI for DC, with Lugtenburg going 2-for-3 and Crouse going 1-for-3.
Game 2

  Game 1
• Ryan Mattes (Whitby, ON) and Ben Spunde (Elmira, ON) each pitched six innings with Mattes striking out five Colts batters and Spunde striking out two. Thomas Aronowicz (Whitby, ON) also pitched one scoreless inning with two strikeouts in relief.
Game 2
• The Lords used another trio of pitchers in the low scoring Game 2, including Michael Asselin (Pickering, ON), Carter Quinney (Pickering, ON), and Ryan Laird (Oshawa, ON).
  Overall Record: 8-9 (W-L)
Conference Record: 7-6
