Centennial Colts Vs. Durham Lords (Game Preview)

By: Griffin Porter

The Centennial Colts baseball team will try to snap a three-game losing streak Wednesday night as they take on the Durham Lords. All the focus will be on the Centennial bats, who were shut out in both games last Thursday against the Seneca Sting. The Colts have struggled for runs this season, scoring just 33 of them total across their first 11 games, but the offence can also be a key factor in the team's success. Centennial put up 7 runs in their most recent victory against Lambton on October 2nd, and they'll need the bats to show up again to keep pace with a powerful Durham team.

The Centennial pitching will be looking to up their performance as well against a Lords team that leads the Ontario East division in runs scored. Durham has scored 84 runs in just 11 games this season, while the Colts have allowed a league-leading 128. Finding a way to limit the powerful Durham attack, which is led by infielder Tyler Chong, will be key to a Centennial victory. Chong has posted a .528 batting average this season while striking out only twice in 44 plate appearances, firmly establishing himself as one of the best hitters in the OCAA. The Colts will turn to catcher Garret Kratz to try and lead the Centennial bats, as the former Ajax High student leads the Colts in hits, RBI, and batting average.

It'll be a tough matchup for Centennial on Wednesday night in Ajax, but a strong showing could provide their season with the jolt of momentum that it's been searching for. Limiting the powerful Durham offence will be a tall task, but it's one that manager Ben Anderson and his team will certainly make their best attempt at, as they look to turn the ship into the right direction heading into the playoffs.
