Colts Battle Phoenix on Home Soil

Colts Battle Phoenix on Home Soil

By: Zachary Friedman

The Centennial Colts look to make it four straight victories to start the season when they face off against the Fleming Phoenix Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix make the trip down from Peterborough having lost their last three games with their only win coming against Loyalist in their season opener.

For Centennial, their red-hot start catapulted them to the top of the OCAA standings and they ranked third in this past week's power rankings.

Last season, the Phoenix and Colts split their two meetings with each team winning on their home floor.

Goulbourne Named OCAA Star of the Week

While the Colts have experienced plenty of team success in the early going, one of their stars has garnered some individual attention.

Deandre Goulbourne, in his second season with the Colts, was named an OCAA Star of the Week.

Goulbourne's play has been nothing short of spectacular. He's scored in the double digits in every game he's played averaging a team high 19 points per game on nearly 63% shooting. The Toronto native also leads the team in assists and ranks second in rebounds.

On the defensive end, Goulbourne has been just as effective with three steals per game and nearly averaging a block each contest.

The Colts early season success can be attributed to the play of Goulbourne, and as long as he plays well, the Colts should be well positioned to come out on top.

Fleming Looking to Bounce Back

Fleming last played Wednesday evening against the George Brown Huskies, losing 97-64.

As a team the Phoenix were struggling offensively shooting just 34% from the field as a team and they also had 24 turnovers in the loss.

The Phoenix are a very young team with eight first year players on the roster.

Of those players was Marcus Parnell who put up an effective showing with a full statline of nine points and eight rebounds, to go along with three steals.

The Phoenix and Colts square off Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Athletic and Wellness Centre. The game will also be broadcast live on Coltsnet Live.
