Colts Extinguish Phoenix

By: Jack Middleton

Peterborough, ON - The Centennial Men's Basketball team traveled to Peterborough to take on the Fleming Phoenix for their second meeting of the year.  In the first matchup, the Colts beat the Phoenix by a score of 84-59 at the Athletic and Wellness Centre. This time, the matchup falls to the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre.

The Colts stormed out of the gate in the first quarter, taking an early 19-0 lead. Strong play from guards Malik Gibbs, Tayeshaun Crawford and Deandre Goulbourne lead the Colts to the strong first quarter.  After the 1st, the Colts lead 32-1.

The Storyline doesn't change in the second quarter.  The Phoenix are able to find a little rythym on the offensive side of the ball, putting up 19 in the quarter, the most of any quarter in the game for the Phoenix but the defensive side of the ball was struggling all night for the Phoenix. At half, the Colts lead 65-20.

The second half continued to be complete domination by the Colts.  Shooting 50% from the field as well as 44% from 3-point territory, the Colts' offense proved to be too much for the Phoenix.

The Colts finish the year with a record of 8-2 and currently sit in 3rd with a very important second half of the season coming up.  Next game for the Colts comes January 10th and 12 on the road against the Loyalist Lancers and the Georgian Grizzlies.
