Colts Fight Hard in First Game of George Brown Invitational

TORONTO - In their first game of the George Brown Invitational indoor soccer tournament the Centennial Colts men's soccer team fell to the Seneca Sting 2-0 on Friday.

Santiago Arroyave, Centennial's starting keeper, did his best to anchor the team and put them in a position to win — but he could only hold off the Sting for so long.

He was forced to make point-blank saves, as is typical of a goalie in a seven-aside game, as early as the third minute of play in their 25-minute opener, but in the Sting found the twine twice in the second half of the game

Defensively the Colts held their own, throwing their bodies in front of the onslaught of shot attempts from the Sting, the most notable being Davood Khosravi who made a goal-line clearance in the 12th minute of play.

The Colts looked as if they had weathered the storm but got stung late in the game, falling behind by two on back-to-back goals — a deficit that could not be recovered.

Despite an early foul call outside the Seneca box, drawn by the veteran Akaim Nagpal, the Colts' offense just couldn't muster much of anything.

After the free kick set play failed to find its way on-goal, the only shot on target came from Ali Azim who's point-blank shot was corralled by the opposing keeper.

The Colts opened the tournament with 0 points but head coach David Lattavo wasn't unhappy with his team's performance.

"Regardless of the score, the guys really competed. It definitely caught [Seneca] off guard but they were able to get the 2 goals that gave them the 3 points. It could have been a different game if we had more time," said Lattavo.

When asked about Santiago Arroyave the Colts' gaffer was pleased.

"He was one of the few players who were very consistent throughout the tournament. He did a great job representing Centennial College. He kept us in the game right from the beginning to the end. We are very proud of his performance!"
