Colts Show Promise as They Close out First Tournament of the Season

TORONTO - The Colts could not find a way to finish the day with a win as they dropped their last match up 2-0 against the St. Clair College Saints on Friday afternoon.

The Colts were fighting from behind early when, moments after a full line change, the Saints capitalized on the substitutes and opened the scoring with only four minutes having passed in the game

The Colts mustered up a little bit of offense where they could with Devin Cairney finding room to get a shot on goal but it was steered aside by the St. Clair keeper. The Colts failed to legitimately test the keeper as they were regularly stifled by the Saints' defense.

Unlike St.Clair, the Colts keeper, Santiago Arroyave had his work cut out for him in the Colts' final game of the George Born Invitational.

The first-year goalkeeper stood on his head in an attempt to keep his team within striking distance making a number of acrobatic stops.

The most notable came off a freekick right outside of the box after Akaim Nagal was called for a side tackle, something that is not allowed in indoor soccer matches, that may have in itself saved a goal.

Reaching down with one hand Arroyave steered aside the set piece but wasn't done there.

In the dying stages of the match Centennial's keeper was left all by himself as the St. Clair striker found himself on a breakaway, Arroyave made the initial save but the follow-up found its way to the back of the net which proved to be the dagger that sealed the deal for the Colts — and not the way they had hoped.

Two blue cards were given out during the match, one for each team.

The Colts finished the George Brown Invitational with a 0-1-2 record.
