Niagara Hosts Mid-Season Tournament

Niagara Hosts Mid-Season Tournament

By: Pedro Casellatto

It's 2024, and the Centennial Men's Volleyball team will start the second half of the season with a very tough, though exciting, challenge. The Colts will be travelling to Niagara this Friday, January 5th, for a two-day mid-season tournament hosted by the Niagara Knights. Besides the Colts, a few known opponents, such as the George Brown Huskies and the Durham Lords, will be participating, as well as teams from the OCAA West division.

The Colts will be playing their first game at noon against the Mohawk Mountaineers, who are currently seated in the seventh position on the West division standings. Although they struggled to put in a sequence of wins in the first semester, they had a few very positive results, one of them being a win against the leaders, the Fanshawe Falcons, who are also playing in this tournament. It will be a strong game that will give the Colts and the Mountaineers a lot of rhythm.

The second game will be against the St. Clair Saints at 6:00 p.m. The Saints have had an amazing season and are currently sitting in the third position in the OCAA West conference. They also had positive results, including a win against the hosts, the Niagara Nights, and another win against the OCAA champions, the Humber Hawks. They have been working hard and are bringing everything they have to this tournament.

This will be a good glance at what the playoffs will look like and a breathtaking display of high-level volleyball, with top teams from both divisions. Plus, the St. Jean Géants and the Sherbrooke Volontaires, both from Quebec, were invited and will be attending the event. As each game will offer a unique set of skills and plays, this tournament will be a good opportunity for preparation and to gain valuable momentum for the second half of the season.
