The Centennial Colts overcame a short bench to capture their second win in a row, as they took down the Durham Lords 75-54 in their first home game of the year.

It was 1st year forward Abby Baptiste-Phillip who lead the way for the Colts once again, as the emerging superstar put up a double-double scoring 20 points and added 24 rebounds to lead Centennial to the victory, improving the Colts' record to 2-1 on the year.

It was a tough battle for Centennial, as injuries limited the Colts' playing roster to just seven players, but Head Coach Naomi Mullings was able to get a complete effort from every player on the roster to secure the victory.

Led by captain Christianna Crooks, who played 38 out of 40 minutes and picked up 11 rebounds and 3 steals, the Colts played a tough, gritty game against some strong Durham defence to come away with the victory. Although turnovers plagued the team in the first half, they were able to get the issues under control at the intermission and came out much stronger in the 3rd quarter.

"We renewed our commitment to take care of the basketball," said Mullings when asked about the change in philosophy that turned a 3-point Centennial lead at the half into a 21-point victory. "To have 17 turnovers in the first half isn't going to help you win basketball games… so we had to make our commitment to take care of the basketball and get what we wanted to get on offence."

The Colts will try to extend their winning streak to 3 on Friday when they take on the George Brown Huskies at Progress Campus.
