Colts Drop Nail-biter in Regular Season Finale

Colts Drop Nail-biter in Regular Season Finale

By: Griffin Porter

The Centennial Colts came inches away from pulling off a terrific comeback but, in the end, fell just short in their final game of the regular season, as they lost to the Algonquin Wolves, 56-54.

The Wolves reached their largest lead of the game when they went up by 10 with just 5 minutes left to play in the 4th quarter and looked poised to put the game away before the Colts launched their comeback effort. The Colts scored 9 unanswered points following a timeout from coach Naomi Mullings but were unable to close the gap in time.

Star Centennial forward Abi Baptiste-Phillip had another stellar effort, as she put up 25 points and 16 rebounds but unfortunately could not get a tough shot at the buzzer to tie the game to drop. Baptiste-Phillip finished her debut season with averages of 26.4 points and 22.4 rebounds per game, emerging as a superstar in the OCAA.

Despite two straight losses to close out the regular season, the Colts are still in a good position come playoff time. They finished 3rd in the OCAA's East Division and earned the right to host a home game in the first round of the playoffs on March 9th against St Lawrence.
