Lady Colts Get Off to a Strong Start at George Brown Invitational

TORONTO - The Centennial Lady Colts were heartbroken by a back post tap-in with 40 seconds left on the clock as they fell to The Toronto Metropolitan University Bold of the OUA 1-0 at the George Brown College Invitational indoor soccer tournament on Friday.

Thanks to no other OCAA teams filling the final spot in the tournament, the Colts were met with the challenge of facing the TMU Bold in their first match of the event.

Those adorning the green and black held their own for the majority of the game.

An early opportunity fell to the feet of captain Emily Cullen, as striker Miley Decoff played off a pass for her at the top of the TMU box but the shot that followed was caught by the opposing keeper.

Cullen acted in her usual role; as anchor of the Colts' defense, garnering the most playing time of any player except keeper Jordyn Chrons-Slaght who did everything she could to give her team a chance against their U Sports competitors.

The netminder managed 7 saves throughout the 25-minute game, most of which came within the penalty area where she had to stand tall and steer aside point-blank attempts from the opposition.

TMU plunged a dagger into the hearts of Rich Hirst and the Colts as they managed to score a back post tap-in with less than a minute to go in the game.

The Lady Colts will look to bounce back in their second game of the day against Laurier University.
