Colts Back in the National Ranking

It might officially be fall, but your Colts were running in summer-like heat this past Saturday (September 30th) at the second race of the 2023 OCAA Cross Country season at Fanshawe College's Cross Country Invitational in London, Ontario. Races took place at the picturesque Fanshawe Conservation area overlooking the Thames River with winding pine trails and nothing but sunshine.

The women's 6km race got things underway with a field of 49 athletes. The speedy Skye Pinto continued to show her determination, placing 13th with a time of 28:13. Next came Jeannalla Burns in her first-ever cross-country race placing 38th with a finishing time of 32:18. It was a great experience for both ladies as they looked forward to the Centennial Colts XC Invitation on Saturday October 14th.

With the women done and the heat of the sun intensifying, it was time for the Men's 8km race to start. Leading the charge for the Colts against a total of 72 runners was Irvin Omere, who went straight to the front and kept pace with the lead pack for a 5th-place finish. Irvin was only 13 seconds off the podium in a blazing time of 26:45, moving up one position from his last start at the Seneca College Cross Country Invitational.

Also moving up in the standings was Kyle Jackson, who fought hard to advance three positions, claiming 17th in a time of 29:03. Teammate Ben Yalin stayed consistent with his placement, sprinting through to the finish line to take the 24th spot in 29:49. Rounding out the men's team score was Jones Chung who finished in 36th place with a time of 31:00.

Last but not least was Shamier Stewart, who made his return to the Colts. Shamier ran a great race, finishing 69th with a time of 43:06.

In the end, the Centennial men remained consistent in the ultra-competitive team standings - capturing 5th overall out of 12 teams.

All eyes are now on the upcoming Centennial Colts XC Invitational on October 14th at Ashtonbee Campus in Scarborough, Ontario. The Colts look to defend their home turf and improve on their already impressive 2023 results.
