Colts add new talent to men’s basketball coaching staff

As the Centennial Colts men’s basketball team looked back and evaluated their previous season, they decided that in order for them to go further in the 2019/2020 year, they needed to add a critical missing piece, or rather, person to the team.

Michael Jackman has completed his four-year degree in Community Economic and Social Development and also has a professional certification in Human Resource Management at Algoma University, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Since finishing his degree, Jackman came back to his roots in Scarborough, Ontario, and has the desire to become a community leader with the youth.

Jackman started Shoot to Learn Academy (STLA), an organization that teaches youth between the ages of 14 to 19 to develop life skills that will aide in their future, through sport application. With his early successes thus far, Jackman has now become a young staple in coaching elite and promising athletes and has gone on to join the Toronto Basketball Academy (TBA) Prep School in North York, which ranked top 10 in the country during the 2018/2019 season.

This role has benefited Jackman to be able to guide these young and aspiring elite athletes at the high school stage in achieving success in both their academics and playing post secondary basketball.

This 2018-2019 season alone, Jackman helped 14 student athletes from STLA and TBA in achieving post-secondary scholarships, along with playing elite basketball at the next stage. Places include Trinidad State, Chicago State, UNB, Winnipeg U, Concordia and Centennial College to name a few.

Jackman is striving towards obtaining advancement in coaching by continuing his NCCP certification.

Men's head coach Trevor Challenger is very excited on adding Coach Jackman to his staff this season.

“Jackman will be bringing his knowledge, high energy, and hunger to our program,” said Challenger.

Challenger has been mentoring Jackman for the past few years and has deemed that he possesses the tools to become successful at this level. He will add to the Colts growing culture and positive environment that has been on the rise in the OCAA the last few years.

Welcome to the Colts family Coach Jackman!
