After narrowly defeating the Niagara Knights at home in their last exhibition match, the Centennial Colts men's basketball team were looking to make it two in a row as they faced off against the visiting Mohawk Mountaineers at the Athletic and Wellness Centre.

Wednesday night's offensive performance from the home team sent the Mountaineers crumbling back down as Centennial went wire-to-wire with a 94-62 rout over Mohawk.

The Colts had the decisive edge in numerous categories, including field goal percentage (44-33), made field goals (37-23), made threes (8-4), and rebounding (62-30).

Five players scored in double figures for Centennial, led by Quentin Herbert's 16 points on four made triples. Isaiah Cromwell-Wright had 15 points and a game high six assists while Dieu Merci Betoukoumessou finished with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, eight of them coming on the offensive glass. Darnell Richards scored 11 off of the bench while Owen Shirley chipped in with 10.

For Mohawk, there were two players that scored in double figures. Cudjoe Masuka had a team high 14 points along with a game high four steals while Milos Mladjan had 13 and a team high six rebounds.

Centennial immediately got it going, scoring the first six points of the game. Despite six points and seven rebounds in the quarter from Betoukoumessou and the home side holding a double digit lead, Mohawk managed to trim the first quarter deficit to five (20-15). Masuka had nine in the frame to lead the Mountaineers.

For the better portion of eight minutes, offense was difficult to come by for both teams as the pace of the game slowed down considerably. In the span of two minutes, however, an avalanche from Centennial occurred. A 13-3 run to end the half, capped off by consecutive triples from Cromwell-Wright, had the Colts up 45-28.

The Colts continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Mountaineers, 28-17, in the frame. Herbert led a balanced attack from the Colts with six in the frame, knocking down both of his triples as Centennial led 74-45 after three.

Both teams then emptied their benches with the game already in hand and Darnell Richards took full advantage, scoring 10 fourth quarter points as the Colts cruised to the win.
