Colts Climb Over Mountaineers to Quarter-Finals

Scarborough, ON - Gianluca Righetto achieved a game high 16 kills in the Centennial Colts four set victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers in their playoff crossover game on Saturday.

This game was the first in the Colts' playoff campaign and marked the second time these two played each other this season. Centennial entered the match hopeful that this second match would create similar results.

In the first set these dreams were punctured when Mohawk showed up swinging. Centennial struggled to build momentum and Mohawk's consistency amid Colt struggles helped them push for a first set victory going up 25-22.

Centennial has experienced difficulty like this throughout the regular season, as their team chemistry starts to falter when they go down early in a set.

"We've certainly struggled with it at times where we talk about taking more responsibility for our actions rather than passing it off and what that will do. It will help relax our players to have more freedom on the court," Head Coach Clayton Couchman said.

"Their dynamic off the court is certainly stronger. We've been working harder at playing better as a team on the court."

In the second set of Saturday's game, the Colts took responsibility and turned the game around.

The battle was still tough, but centennial went on to secure three sets in a row. They stayed present and showed that playoffs is where they belong.

"We want to stay focusing on the next point so we can play better as a team," Couchman said.

Mohawk fell 25-17, 25-23, and 25-22 giving the Colts their next playoff berth.

Centennial will play next Saturday where they fill face St. Clair at home.
