The Lady Colts suffered a tough loss against the George Brown Huskies, falling 74-66, Wednesday night at the Athletic and Wellness Centre.

The Colts now fall to 6-7 on the season while the Huskies move to 3-10 with the win.

The loss overshadowed a monster performance from rookie forward Yasmeen Smith as she had a career high 30 points to go along with an incredible 17 rebounds.

It was her tenth straight game scoring in double figures and her fifth consecutive game with double digit rebounds. Unfortunately, she was the only player for Centennial to score in double figures.

Forwards Kayla Higgins and Aliyah Campbell-east led all players with four blocks each while guard Bethany Miller led the team with six assists in the loss.

For the Huskies, it was a balanced attack as four players scored in double figures. Forward Tianna Sullivan had a double-double, with a team high 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Despite outrebounding George Brown 61-53 and having more blocked shots (9-1), Centennial hit four less threes than the Huskies (5-1) and were outscored 19-11 at the free throw line. Foul trouble was a major issue for the Colts as three Centennial players (Effe Mae Abban, Karmealia Turner, Campbell-east) fouled out of the game.

The Colts also shot poorly, shooting just 33.3 per cent from the field and 7.7 per cent (1-13) from three point range. Despite that, Centennial had more assists (14-12), more steals (5-2) and forced the Huskies to shoot 30.5 per cent from the field.

Centennial does not have to wait long to try and bounce back as they play host to the Georgian Grizzlies at the Athletic and Wellness Centre on Friday Feb. 3 at 6:00 pm.
