Wolves Stay Undefeated Against Colts

By: Jack Middleton

Scarborough, ON - Saturday afternoon marked a David vs Goliath matchup in OCAA women's basketball as the undefeated Algonquin Wolves visited the Centennial Colts.

The first quarter was fast-paced with the Wolves capitalizing on many fast break opportunities off of the Colts' 10 turnovers in the quarter.  11 points from Cianah Miller pushed the Wolves lead to 26-9 after 1.

The Colts came out in the second with tons of energy and an improvement on the defensive side of the ball.  Continuously getting stops on defense, the Colts were able to close the gap to 7 at one point in the quarter but a late run by the Wolves mixed with missing multiple free throws in the quarter, brought the Wolves lead back to 38-24.

Coming out of the half with purpose the Colts put on another amazing display of the defensive side of the ball causing 7 turnovers in the 3rd quarter as Tara Dowrich tried taking over the game putting up 6 of the Colts 11 points in the frame.

Continued unsuccessful trips to the free throw line proved costly for the Colts going 11-29 from the line.  Algonquin showed why they are one of the best teams in the league by beating the Colts 77-45.

Cianah Miller of the Wolves with a game high 25 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.  The Colts were lead by Tara Dowrich and Mikayla Simon-Tucker both putting up 10 points each and a double-double for Simon-Tucker.

The Colts get a 6 days of rest before their next game when they travel to St. Lawrence on February 2nd to take on the Surge.
