Colts fall to Huskies to end off their season

Toronto, ON -  The George Brown Huskies sunk the Centennial Colts 74-57, in their final game of the regular season on Friday evening.

Despite a quick start, Centennial eventually fell out of their groove and a balanced attack from George Brown flowed for most of the game.

The Huskies' (8-6) Ava Proskos led the way with a dominant 11 point performance. Helping out was Adrienne Williamson, who shot 5-for-9 from the field.

For the Colts (3-11) it was Daneika Walker and Zhané Michael providing the offence, each with 13 points in the effort. As well, Tara Dowrich was just shy of a double-double with her nine points and nine rebounds.

When the first quarter came to a close, Dowrich and Mikaela Hawkins combined for 13 of the Colts 26 as they were in front, 26-20. The team was playing quickly in transition and making their open shots count.

Their eventual nine-point lead, along with their intensity slipped away and the momentum shifted in the second quarter. A string of four three's plus a 45-21 stretch in the middle two frames, kept the Huskies out in front.

George Brown dominated the glass, bringing down 58 boards, with 20 on offence. Centennial would put up 32 total en route to the defeat. The Huskies were efficient at the line, going 12-for-13. The Colts meanwhile, were just 55.6%, shooting 10-for-18.

With the loss, the Colts will finish the year in eighth place in the East Division, drawing a tough playoff matchup against the first place Lambton Lions (13-2).

Centennial's season finishes off 2-5, rebounding after a tough start to the year. Despite the results, the Colts have to be happy with parts of their play down the stretch. Now, they'll look to bring some of the intensity they found in the playoffs to Sarnia on Saturday.
