Lady Colts Soccer Team Win Final Game of the Season

Lady Colts Soccer Team Win Final Game of the Season

The team set out to defend the stable and that they did. The lady Colts defeated the visiting team form Peterborough the Fleming Knights by a score of 4-3. This one was an exciting game as both teams traded goals and players were ejected. The game started off with the Knights finding the net after only 9 minutes in with a first goal. The Knights struck again going up 2-0 in the 13th minute. All seemed lost as the visitors had gone up two early in the game. That was not to be the case as the Ladies came to win, this day. In the 22nd and 30th minutes of the game, Colts striker Sherine DeJong stepped up and put two goals away to bring the Colts back into contention. The game continued to be a back and forth affair until the end of the first half 2-2.

The second half saw the game go in the Colts Favour as the team finally broke the deadlock by scoring in the 65th minute when was Nicole Warren broke through the Knights defense and was taken down for a PK in which she converted. Then Nicole Hay made another run getting in behidn the Khights defense on with a break away, huge knee cast and all, and blasted one home to put the Colts out in front 4-2 for good. It was that goal that sealed the deal in the 73rd minute of the game which was the eventual game winner. As the Colts were up 4-2 you would have though that the game was done. That was not to be the case as Fleming continued to fight on and found another goal in the 83rd minute of the game when Kristine Whiston from Fleming put away a cross. However, it was not enough as the ladies hung on to take the 3 points.

Centennial's goalie Leila Grants made 7 saves on the day while Fleming's Shannon Leitz had 14 saves from the Colts 22 shots that were fired while the Knights fired off 19. Each team received an ejection as tempers got heated and there was a minor squirmish in the 87th minute of the game. A red card ended up being shown to Centennial's Rachel Marcos and to Fleming's Timara Stuck. A beautiful finish with lots of action and excitement to an up and down season. The ladies ended their season with a record of 2-8-2 with 12GF & 48GA.  The team will not shift their focus to the indoor season which will begin in January as they failed to make the post season.
