Men's basketball: February 4 recap vs. Fleming Knights

By Marcus Rebelo

The Centennial Colts remained unbeaten at home with a 79-61 victory over the Fleming Knights on Tuesday night at Progress Campus.

Shermar Brisett led the Colts (9-7) with 18 points and a game-high 22 rebounds.

“I just tried to box out and make sure to be in position. You always have to be ready,” said Brisett.

Despite the Knights’ (1-15) spot at the bottom of the OCAA East standings, the two teams were tied at the half after a tense back and forth affair.

“Second half we came together and realized our mistakes,” Brisett said. “We realized what we were doing wrong and we made those improvements altogether.  In the first half, we were scrambling trying to get rebounds; we fixed that and played hard and made the right passes.

“Our defence led to our offence.”

Led by Brissett and Henlin, who contributed with a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds as well as a team high five assists of his own, Centennial pulled away in the second half of a key matchup with the regular season winding down.

Although the Colts had 16 turnovers, they out rebounded the Knights by 43 (73-30).

Quentin Herbert and Owen Shirley also added in to the Colts’ offensive performance with a combined 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Matthew Ashley (17), Mkons Stone-Debassige (16), and Christian Edward (14) led the Knights in scoring.

The Colts will look to extend their winning streaking to three games when they matchup against the Durham Lords on the road Friday, Feb. 7 (8 p.m.).

“It’s about realizing our mistakes and changing those in practice,” said Brisett. “It’s those little details that are going to make a difference and we’re not done improving. We’re going to continue to get better and win.”
