
Centennial College’s Sports Injury Clinic is staffed by certified Athletic Therapists, who provide care to the Colts Varsity athletes and teams. The Sports Injury Clinic is available to all varsity athletes for the assessment, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. The clinic’s support staff also includes Sports Physicians, Sport Psychologists, and other integrated support staff through referral.
Teaching Clinic: The Sport Injury Clinic is a teaching clinic to provide students in the Athletic Therapy Certificate programs from York University and Sheridan College, with practical-based experiential learning. You will be seen by an Athletic Therapy student in addition to the supervising clinician for all treatment.
Who we serve: The clinic is only available to all Centennial Colts Varsity or Extramural athletes who have a sport or exercise-related injury.
Services for varsity athletes:
- Orthopaedic clinical assessment of acute and chronic injuries
- Practice/game athlete preparation, follow-up and recovery care
- Preventative taping and bracing
- Rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries (including manual therapy, various therapeutic modalities, corrective exercises)
- First response and emergency care at varsity events
- Acute injury care
- Concussion management, including baseline testing
- Mental Health support
- Bracing – custom and off the shelf
- Anti-doping Education
- Communication and teamwork with Strength & Conditioning regarding athlete well-being and recovery
- Medical referral to several specialists and access to diagnostics
- Baseline testing of all athletes and ongoing management (referral and rehabilitation services) for injuries related to concussion.

The clinic is located within the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) in the Athletics and Recreation Department – Progress Campus.

Fees – There are no associated fees for therapy services provided to each athlete. Physician visits are covered by your valid OHIP card, other provincial health insurance plan, or student health insurance plan (Guard.Me). Occasionally, you may be advised to purchase off-the-shelf or custom bracing that will be payable upon receipt of purchase.

Return to Play Decisions -
Certified Athletic Therapists and Athletic Therapy students provide field and clinic care for all varsity teams. Return to play decisions are made in the best interest of the student-athlete, with the short term goal of safe return as soon as possible, and the long term goal of continuous play and good health for each athlete. Return to play decisions are made by the Certified Athletic Therapists at Centennial College. Each varsity athlete will need to be cleared to play before their first practice on an annual basis or following an injury.

PLEASE NOTE:
- The clinic is a scent-free facility.
- The clinic does not take any other volunteers outside of the Athletic Therapy students.
- The clinic does not treat patients with workplace or motor vehicles injuries and we reserve the right to cease treatment as determined to be appropriate.

Appointments will be available between 11:00 am to 7 pm. The clinic will be open from 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm for emergency services during practice times.

Student-Athletes must complete the COVID-19 screening survey fully and completely prior to every appointment.

The survey is a pre-screen for illness and contact tracing purposes.
Masks must be worn during treatments unless otherwise directed by the treating therapist during rehab exercises/programs.
No treatments during scheduled team practices (including team strength and conditioning sessions) unless a meeting is held with the athlete, coach, and therapist to discuss course of treatment after the initial assessment has been completed.
No visitors or friends allowed in the treatment area during appointments.
No drop-in appointments allowed – All athletes need to book an appointment 2 hours ahead of time to allow time to complete pre-screening questionnaires.
For inquiries, except in the case of follow-up from field assessments, please contact the therapy staff via email to discuss needs and options for visits before in-person appointments.
We reserve the right to refuse to treat student-athlete if the above rules are not observed. For us to remain open and available to serve the Centennial Community, we need to follow public health recommendations and guidelines.
