Colts Drop Road Opener to Sting

Colts Drop Road Opener to Sting

It wasn't the start to the season that the Centennial Colts volleyball team was no doubt hoping for, but it was still one that left the team with lots to build on as the season goes forward from here.

The Colts dropped their first game since, before the COVID-19 pandemic began 3 sets to 0 Thursday night against Seneca College, as a team filled with new members and young players finally were able to get their season underway.

Centennial struggled in the first set, as the effects of not playing in nearly two years and trying to implement so many new players into the roster showed up early in the forms of miscommunication and missed shots. The Colts lost that first set 25-12, but came out strong in the second.

The second set saw a much stronger Centennial side, as they hung with a strong Sting squad much later into the set, although they did eventually drop it 25-17. Strong net play from Ayo Ojeshina and the rest of Centennial was a key to the Colts competitive showing as they gained even more confidence in the 3rd set, before eventually dropping that one as well by a score of 25-18.

Although the straight-set loss was not the way any team hopes to start their season, the Colts will no doubt take inspiration from how they improved so rapidly over the course of the match. Centennial will get a chance to show their growth, even more, when the team plays their home opener this Saturday at Progress Campus in Scarborough.
