Yasmeen Smith named East Division First Team All-Star

TORONTO - Humber College's Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Year for the third consecutive season in a ceremony held in Toronto on Thursday evening as part of the 2018 belairdirect OCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

The fifth-year point guard paced Humber to a third-straight undefeated regular season, winning the West Division championship with a record of 20-0. Nofuente was among the league leaders averaging 17.4 points per game and led all OCAA players averaging 7.0 assists and 7.5 steals per game. Nofuente is now a three-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and headlines the OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Tianna Sullivan (Toronto) of George Brown is also an All-Canadian. The fourth-year player was the OCAA Scoring Champion, leading all players averaging 22.0 points per game. She scored 374 total points. In addition to being the OCAA East Division Scoring Champion, Sullivan is also an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star.

The OCAA Rookie of the Year is Brianna Stewart (Brampton) of Sheridan. The guard was 10th in league scoring averaging 16.0 points per game. Stewart tallied 320 total points, 69 assists and 53 steals. Stewart is also the OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year, an OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star and headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Warren Williams of George Brown is the OCAA East Division Coach of the Year and is the OCAA nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. Williams guided his Huskies to the OCAA East Division championship with a record of 15-2. It was quite a turnaround from last season when George Brown was 6-11.

The OCAA East Division Rookie of the Year is Melissa Gilligan (Cornwall) of Algonquin. The guard averaged 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Gilligan headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

Bill Carriere of Fanshawe is the OCAA West Division Coach of the Year. Fanshawe finished in second place in the West Division with a record of 17-3, improving on its 12-6 mark in 2016-17. The Falcons earned their first win over Mohawk since Nov. 29, 2013, helping Fanshawe secure the second seed entering the post-season.

Redeemer's Jessica Bosma (Hamilton) is the OCAA West Division Scoring Champion. The third-year forward averaged 19.1 points per game, totalling 383 points to lead all OCAA players. Bosma is also an OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star.

Shenice Stubbs (North York) of Seneca is the OCAA East Division Defensive Player of the Year. The second-year forward was fifth in the OCAA averaging 10.9 rebounds per game. She also contributed 28 steals and 11 blocks.

The OCAA West Division Defensive Player of the Year is Aleena Domingo (Toronto) of Humber. The fifth-year small forward was fifth in total rebounds with 206, while adding 43 steals and five blocks. Domingo is also an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star.

In addition to the Humber duo of Nofuente and Domingo, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Chuot Angou (London) of Fanshawe; Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) of Niagara; and Shannon Kennedy (Windsor) of St. Clair.

Joining Sullivan as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Centennial's Yasmeen Smith (Cambridge); George Brown's Aprille Deus (Brampton); Loyalist's Jenni Thompson(Belleville) and Seneca's Taylor Allicock (Thornhill).

Along with Stewart and Bosma, OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Ali Vlasman (Mount Elgin) of Fanshawe; Stef Hrymak (Hamilton) of Mohawk; and Courtney Kilyk(Fonthill) of Niagara.

Making up the OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars are Algonquin's Katie Flansbury (Ottawa); Durham's Maddie Dender (Ajax) and Dekota Kirby (Markham); St. Lawrence-Kingston's Kylie Moyer (Prince Edward County) and Shian Noble (Pickering); and Seneca's Sarah Givens (Harrowsmith).

As well as Stewart, the OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team includes Jamila Beckford (Kitchener) of Conestoga; Makeba Taylor (Toronto) of Humber; Shania Graham (Saint John, N.B.) of Redeemer; and Logan Kucera (Chatham) of St. Clair.

Durham's Emily Glendinning (Plattsville); George Brown's Merrissa Moore (Huntsville); Loyalist's Brittany Mason (Ottawa); and Seneca's Brianna-mae Clough (Ajax) join Gilligan on the OCAA East Division All-Rookie Team.
