Colts Badminton Shines at Fanshawe College Tournament

The Centennial Colts Varsity Badminton team had a remarkable outing this past weekend at Fanshawe College in London. Competing against some of Ontario's top teams, the Colts demonstrated skill, resilience, and teamwork, securing multiple podium finishes across several categories.

The standout performance came in Mixed Doubles (XD) Main Round, where Jonathan Ma and Lheidelle Santos claimed the 1st place title after an exceptional display of chemistry and precision.

The tournament also introduced a "Coaches Cup Draw" for some added excitement. The Colts' assistant coaches, Gavin Robinson and Ayub Touray, showcased their abilities and finished in an impressive 2nd place.

Tournament Results

Men's Singles (MS) Main Round

  • Jonathan Ma: 2nd place, narrowly missing the title after a competitive finals match against George Brown College (GBC).

Women's Singles (WS) Main Round

  • Jasmine Lau: Reached the quarterfinals, finishing 5/8 after a tough match against Seneca.

Men's Doubles (MD) Main Round

  • Jonathan Ma and Adam Wilson: 2nd place, following a hard-fought finals battle against Humber College.

Mixed Doubles (XD) Main Round

  • Jonathan Ma and Lheidelle Santos: 1st place, dominating the competition.

Men's Doubles (MD) C Flight

  • Hemanth Paspupathi and Aman Kumar: Secured a 3/4 place finish.

Women's Doubles (WD) B Flight

  • Rini Chiu and Lheidelle Santos: 1st place, delivering a commanding performance.
  • Jasmine Lau and Mary Anne Fernando: 2nd place, taking the runners-up position.
  • Celine Chan and Meagan Cruz: Finished in 3/4 place, completing an impressive showing in the flight.

Mixed Doubles (XD) B Flight

  • Hemanth Paspupathi and Mary Anne Fernando: Reached the 5/8 round.

Mixed Doubles (XD) C Flight

  • Adam Wilson and Rini Chiu: 2nd place, narrowly missing the top spot.
  • Ferdrehc Torilla and Jasmine Lau: 3/4 place finish, adding another strong result to the Colts' weekend.

Coaches Cup Draw

  • Gavin Robinson and Ayub Touray: Achieved 2nd place, demonstrating their expertise and adding to the Colts' success.
