It was a rough winter home opener Friday night at the Athletic and Wellness Centre for the Centennial Colts men's basketball team, as they lost by double digits to the St Lawrence (Kingston) Vikings.

The Centennial men had hoped for revenge against the Vikings after their season opening loss against St. Lawrence. It was not meant to be as the Colts lost, 70-51.

The loss snapped Centennial two game winning streak as they fell to 8-4. St. Lawrence, meanwhile, move to 6-6.

Poor shooting haunted the Colts throughout the entire game- whether it was from the field, the three point line or even at the charity stripe. It was a game long struggle as Centennial shot 27.3 per cent from the field (21-77), 10.3 per cent from beyond the arc (3-29), and shot 33.3 per cent from the free throw line (6-18).

Defense was also a major issue as the Vikings shot 48.1 per cent from the field (25-52) and 50 per cent from beyond the arc (11-22).

To their credit, the Colts forced the Vikings into 20 turnovers and only committed nine themselves. Centennial also had 25 more shot attempts.

Forward Paul Walwyn led the Colts with 17 points while forward Marko Curic was the only other player in double figures for Centennial with 13 points and also had a game high four blocks.

For St. Lawrence, Jaz Bains nearly had a triple double with 24 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Bains also hit five threes in the win.

The Centennial men look to bounce back quickly, as they play on Sunday Jan. 22 at 1:00 pm against the Canadore Panthers at the Athletic and Wellness Centre.
