Centennial MBB: Heading cross-town to make it 4

TORONTO, ONTARIO - The Centennial Colts Men's Basketball team is riding high on a three-game win streak as they continue their road trip, aiming to make it four in a row. Tonight, they'll face off against their long-time rivals, the George Brown Huskies, in a thrilling showdown. Last weekend, the Colts kept their momentum going with a solid road victory over the St. Lawrence Surge in Kingston. Despite stumbling with two early-season losses, the team has rebounded impressively, displaying resilience, grit, and unity to secure their winning streak. This turnaround began with a strong win over the La Cité Coyotes, their last home game.

The Huskies, though reigning national silver medalists, have faced their own challenges this season. With a 2-3 start and some key starters out, they're still adapting to a new offensive style. Head coach Mike Jackman has devised a game plan focused on disrupting George Brown's rhythm early. He's emphasizing defensive pressure and disciplined, patient offense to control the tempo and create scoring opportunities.

Tavonn Mars Buckley and Tayeshaun Crawford have been standout players for the Colts, contributing significantly on both ends. Tonight, they'll be crucial in setting the tone, bringing the intensity needed to hold back the Huskies. The team's biggest test will be in maintaining discipline and avoiding costly mistakes. Early foul trouble and turnovers led to costly points in their first two games against Seneca and Algonquin, but since then, they've tightened up and revitalized their offense. Though they haven't found a consistent top scorer to replace last season's stars Hussam Shallo and Deandre Goulbourne, the team is building a balanced offense with strong chemistry. Malik Gibbs, another key scorer, is expected to return in the second semester, further strengthening the lineup.

If the Colts can stay composed and execute their plan, they have a prime opportunity to extend their streak tonight. A win would propel them near the top of the East Division standings, reinforcing their position as a rising force in the league.

Tip-off is at 8:00 PM at the Alex Barbier Gym in George Brown's Downtown Campus. Can't make it in person? Catch all the live action on OCAA.live.
