With the volleyball season finally here, it's time to dust off the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) stands and get ready for another exciting season. The Colts Men's Volleyball team is hungry for a strong start as they host the Seneca Sting on Friday, October 18, at 8:00 p.m. for their Home Opener.
All eyes are on this new Colts squad. After a strong performance last season, finishing 4th in the province, they are eager to prove it wasn't a fluke, especially with a revamped roster filled with rookies. "We have quality up and down our roster at every position, that I know for a fact," said Pedro Casellatto, the 4th-year captain. "However, we have a lot of new gears; we need to ensure we connect them as soon as possible, so we can start growing from there," he added.
This game will also mark the beginning of Jordan Timpson's collegiate coaching career, as the new Head Coach for the Colts. With an impressive resume that includes extensive experience at the club and provincial levels, he takes the reins of a team looking to build on its recent successes.
The Colts are quite familiar with the Seneca Sting, as both teams play in the same division and have faced each other numerous times. Last season, the two teams split the regular-season series, with each side winning on the road. Knowing they've won in hostile territory before, the Sting will come into this game confident. Since they didn't face each other during the pre-season, expect the first few points to be a feeling-out process.
The Colts had a promising pre-season and are eager to showcase their progress in this game. It's been a quick adjustment period for the team, as first-year left-side player Ruslan Delawar mentioned: "Two months ago, most of us didn't know each other, which has been a constant adjustment for us."
Be sure to come out to the AWC this Friday, as the men's game will start right after the women's match concludes. If you can't make it in person, tune in to our YouTube channel, COLTSNET, to watch the first step of the men's volleyball season.
