Colts Overcome Durham Lords with Late-Game Rally

The Centennial Women's soccer team secured a thrilling comeback victory over the Durham Lords, with the game's outcome decided in the final ten minutes. Despite a slow start, the Colts turned the game around in the second half with renewed energy, putting themselves back on a winning track.

The Lords arrived at the Colts' home field with a clear counterattacking strategy. In a lapse where the Colts relaxed while switching the ball from side to side, Sage Thomas-Roberts capitalized, intercepting the ball and drawing the defenders toward her. This left Lilah Harnett unmarked to receive the pass and easily tap the ball into the net. After taking the lead, the Lords quickly settled into a defensive posture, waiting for the Colts to push forward.

The second half saw the Colts searching for an equalizer. About ten minutes in, Serena McDonald delivered a precise through ball to Mylie Decoff, who calmly finished to bring the Colts level. However, the Lords were quick to respond, with Sage Thomas-Roberts once again reclaiming the lead for her side.

With the game slipping away, head coach Rich Hirst made critical adjustments, moving fourth-year player Emily Cullen to the right wing. The change paid off immediately as Cullen provided back-to-back assists for Nailah Rowe and Vanessa Lima, propelling the Colts ahead for the first time in the match. Mylie Decoff further contributed by assisting Lima in scoring the fourth and final goal, sealing the victory.

This crucial win keeps the Colts in the race for first place. Their next challenge will be against the Algonquin Wolves, where they aim to replicate this performance and claim the top spot in the East Division.
