Colts Sweep Away Phoenix

Colts Sweep Away Phoenix

By: Pedro Casellatto

Scarborough, ON - With another great performance, the Centennial Women's Volleyball team added another win to the streak and ended the year with a record of 7-4 after defeating the Fleming Phoenix in three straight sets. Although they could not take over fourth place, they now have a four-point gap over the team sitting right below them.

The Colts had an overall positive performance, not allowing many opportunities for the Phoenix to get ahead. They found a good rhythm to play the game with strong attacks and aggressive serves, while the Phoenix struggled with finding their way out of that situation. Jaque Ronquillo, the Colts' outside hitter, led the team with 12 kills, being the only fundament in which she scored. The libero, Ava Hamilton, had a consistent performance and got important digs in moments when the Phoenix was being more aggressive.

In the third set, the Colts were surprised by a hot start by the Phoenix. However, Ferana Maleki was the back bone for the Colts and helped the team get back on track. The Colts showed a lot of efficiency in that set, and after closing it with a score of 25-19, they finished the year with a win.

The Colts have had a consistent season, with positive results and excellent performances from many players. They will be looking to improve that record when they get back in January for the second half of the season.

First game in the second half comes on January 13th and 14th on the road against the Algonquin Wolves and the La Cite Coyotes.
