Colts Defeat Huskies on the Road

Toronto, ON — After five long sets (25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13) on Saturday, the Centennial Colts persisted for a road victory over the George Brown Huskies.

With many of their players healed up and ready to get back on the court, this game marked a return to normal for the Colts. After two stellar games outside her usual position, Ava Hamilton returned to the libero position and Sophia Clement retook the floor as starting setter. Sarah Campbell also dressed for the match, making this the first game back since her injury as well.

The first set began in the Huskies favour, but the Colts were quick to reply and grow a lead going up 14-11. Strong attacks from CL Viloria on the right side helped lead Centennial to a 25-21 victory in the first set.

In the second set, the Colts fell to the Huskies after numerous service and return errors. Centennial delivered the stronger kills and plays, however, their mistakes cost them their lead and the set and George Brown capitalized to win 25-22.

Overall, the Colt offense was much more deliberate, and their attacks more powerful, but tiny errors like tipping the ball out of bounds prevented the Colts from dominating the third set. Halfway through, the Huskies were up three points, 18-15, and the Colts were forced to call a timeout.

This stoppage gave the Colts a chance to comeback and remove the gap, making it 24-24, but their efforts would not be enough. After a few more rallies the Huskies would take the set 26-24.

The fourth set would follow similarly with both teams fighting hard, but the Colts needed the win more, and their efforts paid out. The Huskies looked to close the Colts' early seven-point lead, but they would only close that gap a little and Centennial would finish out the set 25-21, pushing the game into a fifth contest.

The Colts had a favourable start to the last set and went up 7-4 early on. Although the Huskies and their crowd did not give up easy, and the game was soon brought within one point at 9-8 for the Colts. The Colts would keep up this lead to take the game with a 15-13 victory in the fifth set

Centennial's next opponent will be Loyalist on Wednesday
