Colts Kick Off the Season on a High Note

The Colts' new faces came in hot this weekend, bringing loads of energy and personality to secure a big win.

Centennial Men's Soccer team started the 2024 season with a bang, beating the St. Lawrence Surge 2-0 last Saturday at the Colts Pitch. After a strong preseason, the team hit the ground running in their OCAA opener, showing everyone they mean business. And with a solid performance like this, they're giving fans something to get excited about.

From the get-go, the game buzzed with energy, as the Colts scored both goals within the first 10 minutes. Former TFC Academy player and Rookie forward Adonis Botsinis wasted no time making his mark—he capitalized on a slip-up by the Surge's defense, swooping in to grab the ball and calmly slot it home for the Colts' first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Duarte Ventura-Oliveira, a fresh face on the outdoor team, saw his chance from a free kick and made it count with a slick low shot that left the Surge's keeper, Nathaniel Benn, rooted to the spot. Two goals up and the Colts were flying!

After those early fireworks, the game evened out a bit, with both sides trading chances and the action getting a little fiery. The ref had to step in, handing out three yellow cards to each team—most of them in the first half, as things got heated on the pitch.

The second half slowed down as the Colts decided to play it smart, focusing on controlling the ball and keeping their lead safe. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence tried to hit them on the counter, but Centennial's defense stood strong. Both goalkeepers were kept on their toes though, with Joshua Naraine pulling off five saves for the Colts and Benn managing six for the Surge. Neither side could find the back of the net again.

In the end, the 2-0 victory was a perfect start for the Colts. The new players, especially Botsinis and Ventura-Oliveira, made an immediate impact, and the team showed some serious promise.

Next up, the Colts head to Peterborough to face the Fleming Phoenix on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. After this confident opener, we can't wait to see if they can keep the momentum going on the road!
