A Clean Sweep get's the Colts back on Track

Colts Women's Volleyball got back on track last night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-17) win over the Georgian Grizzlies. With this victory, the Colts improve to 4-3, putting them in 5th place in the East behind Seneca, Durham, Algonquin, and George Brown. After a disappointing showing last week in a road loss to the George Brown Huskies, the team acknowledged that they might have entered that matchup a bit too relaxed, riding high after wins against strong teams like the Canadore Panthers and the Durham Lords. Last night's sweep of the Grizzlies, however, showed a team regaining its groove and competitive edge. Georgian, struggling this season at 1-6 with only one victory against the Fleming Phoenix, couldn't keep pace with the Colts' renewed intensity.

Leading the Colts' charge were Jaque Ronquillo and CL Viloria, who scored 13 and 11 points respectively. The Colts, who tend to start matches slowly, came out with purpose and control this time, setting the tempo early and maintaining it throughout. Their dominance was clear, as they wrapped up the game in just over an hour. Krystyn Dawn Ruiz was a standout from the service line and a driving force in the Colts' attack, recording a game-high 16 assists and keeping Georgian's defence on their heels.

The next three games will be a crucial test for the Colts as they hit the road. First, they face the Durham Lords, a strong team eager to avenge their earlier loss to the Colts. Next, they take on the Seneca Sting, who currently lead the OCAA along with Humber at an unbeaten 7-0. The Colts will wrap up their road trip in Belleville against the Loyalist Lancers, a team they split wins with last season and are now close behind them in 7th place.

As the Colts prepare for this challenging stretch, Jaque Ronquillo reflected on the importance of the road trip and the mindset needed for these pivotal games: "We know these next matches will be some of our toughest yet, but we've been working hard to stay focused, learn from our mistakes, and build on our strengths. We're going in prepared and ready to show that we're a serious contender this season."

If the Colts can secure wins over these upcoming opponents, they'll prove they have the resilience and skill to be a top team in the OCAA East. This stretch may define their season, but they seem ready for the challenge.
