After a thrilling victory over the No. 4-seeded Wolves to kick off 2025, the Colts Women's Volleyball team has hit a rough patch, suffering back-to-back straight-set losses to the La Cité Coyotes and Canadore Panthers. Now sitting at an even split in their season series against the Wolves, Lords, Coyotes, and Panthers, the Colts have a chance to turn things around tonight as they go for the season sweep over the Georgian Grizzlies.
Confidence shouldn't be an issue—this is a team they know they can beat. Their first meeting in November saw the Colts dominate on home court, sweeping the Grizzlies in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-17). A key factor in that win was their aggressive service game, led by CL Viloria, who currently ranks third in the OCAA in service aces. As a team, the Colts lead the entire league with 198 aces this season, proving they are at their best when putting opponents under pressure from the service line. However, when their serves aren't landing or they give away too many unforced points, it's been difficult for them to regain control of matches.
That said, they should be able to play loose and confident tonight. Barring any major surprises, the Colts are all but locked into the No. 5 seed in the East Division and will be hitting the road for the second straight year in the playoffs. With two very winnable games remaining—tonight against the Grizzlies and a season finale versus the Huskies—they have a great opportunity to build momentum heading into the postseason and improve upon last year's record.
